How to choose the right plumber
It comes as no surprise that among all repairs required in a typical household, plumbing repairs are the most common. After all, there are bathrooms, the kitchen and pipes throughout and below the house where so much can go amiss and necessitate plumbing repair. Unfortunately not everyone has a plumber that they have routinely used and have developed a trusted relationship with. First, don’t call 911. Some phone calls and a small amount of probing will help you decide the right plumbing company for you.
One great piece of advice would be to research and make a relationship with a plumbing company before you actually require any plumbing repair. That way, you aren’t in a hysterical rush and are more likely to calmly and reasonably get the information about plumbing service you need.
When calling plumbers, you need to ask if they are licensed; how long have they served as professional plumbers; what list of guarantees they offer on their work and if they can provide you with the names of any references. And most importantly, don’t forget to ask how much their service costs. You don’t want to take a flyer on a plumber who is not licensed. Similarly, you probably don’t want to hire a person who has very little experience. Plumbers with lots of experience in plumbing repair have learned valuable experience in handling just about every kind of plumbing service.
Will a plumber or his plumbing company offer a 30-day warranty on any work or supplies used for any plumbing repairs? Perhaps someone else offers 60 days or 6 months. That could be a central factor in who will get the job. if you don’t know about the plumbing repair yourself, and don’t have a reliable friend who does, then references are necessary. If a plumbing company says they don’t have them, or can’t come up with them right now, it’s time to move on to another company for your plumbing repair. The best way to keep the cost reasonable is to ask for a plumbing company that offers free estimates. In terms of which plumbing jobs you should be able to handle and which are better left for the plumbing company really depends on your own knowledge of plumbing repairs. Some people are very handy and can take care of even complex jobs. Just make sure you don’t take on a plumbing repair that needs a local inspection. In fact you do not want to take on any job where you feel uneasy in the least.
Just remember, if you take a little time to make some calls, and make sure you perform the research when you have no plumbing repair problems, a few of questions will allow you to compare plumbers against one another to pick the right one for your plumbing problem.
